  • Incorporated in 1899 by American Steel & Wire

  • Completed in 1904

  • Seven miles of mainline track

  • Class One railroad status

  • Prime task was to move molten metal from AS&W Central Furnace to the Newburgh steel operations.

  • 1927 - Railroad is operating 32 locomotives

  • 1939 - Diesels introduced to the N&SS fleet

  • 1947 - Steam locomotives retired from N&SS service. First Ohio class one railroad to retire steam.
