The earliest Cleveland area rolling mills were established in Newburgh in 1857.

  • 1858 - Stone, Chisolm & Jones Company produces iron rails

  • 1861 - First blast furnace erected

  • 1863 - Reorganized as Cleveland Rolling Mill Company

  • 1868 - First steel produced in Newburgh using Bessemer process

  • 1879s - Production expanded into wire products

  • 1881 - Company builds Central Furnace along Cuyahoga River

  • 1899 - Merges into American Steel & Wire

  • 1901 - US Steel organized and AS&W becomes a subsidiary
