The earliest Cleveland area rolling mills were established in Newburgh in 1857.

1858 - Stone, Chisolm & Jones Company produces iron rails

1861 - First blast furnace erected

1863 - Reorganized as Cleveland Rolling Mill Company

1868 - First steel produced in Newburgh using Bessemer process

1879s - Production expanded into wire products

1881 - Company builds Central Furnace along Cuyahoga River

1899 - Merges into American Steel & Wire

1901 - US Steel organized and AS&W becomes a subsidiary
